Two Standards, One Goal: Technical Cleanliness

The automotive industry applies two distinct cleanliness requirements: ISO 14644 classifies cleanroom air by particle concentration — critical for the production environment of optical systems, electronics and battery cells. VDA 19 / ISO 16232 assesses component cleanliness — the particle size and count on the component itself — and is a prerequisite for delivery release of hydraulic, engine and fuel system components.

Many Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers need both: an ISO 14644-certified cleanroom as a production environment and VDA 19 verification of component cleanliness at the process output. Driver assistance systems (ADAS) from Level 2 upwards rely on camera, LiDAR and radar sensors that are assembled and tested under particle-free conditions of class ISO 5 to ISO 6.
